A spouse or life partner of a South African citizen or permanent resident may apply for a direct permanent residence permit. However, they must prove that they have been in a relationship for at least five years, either through cohabitation or a legal marriage certificate.
Dependants of a South African citizen or permanent resident, such as children under the age of 18 or those above 18 who remain financially dependent on their parents, as well as relatives satisfying the first level of kinship, are eligible to apply for a Permanent Residence Permit.
